The treatment for asthma is usually something called a bronchodilator (which open up the airways so that more air can get in and out) as well as daily medicines that help to stop inflammation (swelling) in the airways. There are many different treatments, however, depending on the severity of the asthma and what triggers set it off. For some people, these medications don’t work and so they often have to go into hospital to be looked after. My work uses maths to learn about what is happening inside the airways of these people to try and figure out how we can help them!
